This is a technical river where small flies and good presentations are needed. It is perfect for those who like walk and wade fishing stalking trout. The average trout is 2 to 5lbs but 9 and 10lb trout are caught every year.
About an hour from Reykjavik and under the shadow of Mount Hekla you will drive through the fertile Icelandic grasslands that are cut by the Minnivallalaekur - a world-class trout river.
Located in a stand of birch trees overlooking one of the best pools on the river, the small four bedroom lodge offers simple, yet comfortable accommodation. The lodge features a full kitchen and has a hot tub on the veranda. Can be catered if required.
The Minni is a small river, 7 km long, that is easily accessed and waded. Riffles, cut banks and deep pools are home to good populations of brown trout.
Tiny flies on small water for large trout, which is the equation for this river. While not every trout is a monster, they are strong and offer the satisfaction of a well-earned catch. When you add the cozy lodge, this experience can’t be missed.
